flow Strategy
Following extensive research, technology trials and stakeholder consultation we have developed a flow Strategy. This strategy is concerned with how Curtin staff and associates find, use, share and keep ‘unstructured’ information in both hard copy and electronic formats. Unstructured information refers to information that is not held in structured databases, and includes word processed documents, e-mail messages, images, multimedia and web content. The objectives of this document are to:
- Provide a three year plan for electronic information management to underpin Curtin’s broader information management strategies;
- Develop a shared vision for flow;
- Propose high level information management principles for Curtin to guide flow;
- Establish an implementation strategy for flow;
- Establish a high level architecture for flow;
- Recommend how areas can prepare for flow;
- Identify mechanisms to monitor and review the implementation of flow.

flow Functional Specification
At the same time as developing the flow Strategy we developed a Functional Specification for Enterprise Content Management at Curtin. The scope of this specification includes all required functions, based on the business and legislative needs of stakeholders, for an electronic information management system for use by staff across all areas of the University. This includes document management, records management and web content management. The IT environment in which a system would operate is also covered in this document. The objectives of this document are to:
- Clearly and accurately describe Curtin’s requirements for the management of unstructured information;
- Develop and communicate a shared understanding of all stakeholders’ functional requirements for electronic information management;
- Explain the business and legislative contexts relevant to the management of unstructured information, to allow potential vendors to meaningfully respond;
- Assist stakeholders' understanding of the project's goals in the context of system selection and deployment, in conjunction with the flow Strategy.
