Curtin flow - Enterprise Content Management for Curtin

Background to the flow project

In mid 2005 an opportunity to improve the efficiency with which Curtin’s staff create, distribute, store and manage electronic information was identified. The CEIMS (Curtin Electronic Information Management System) concept was subsequently established by Information Management Services (IMS) and the Office of the University Secretary, with the support of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic Services. The project was rebadged flow in 2007.

In line with an emerging Shared Services approach to the delivery of commodity ICT services at Curtin, flow brought together previous Electronic Document and Records Management and Web Content Management projects from across various areas of the University.

In addition, an internal audit report in mid 2006 recommended remedial action to address certain deficiencies in Curtin's recordkeeping environment. The flow project provides an opportunity to address some of these issues.

Strategic objectives

The flow project is a strategic initiative approved in the 2006 budget process. It supports the following objectives of the University’s Strategic Plan 2006-2008:

The project team currently comprises three full time staff: a Project Manager and two Business Analysts. The project sponsor is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the project owner is the Director, University Information Management. The project steering committee comprises 15 members from both general and academic areas.
